Sunday Snog

Thought I'd participate in Victoria Blisse's Sunday Snog. Here's a kissing scene from my M/M romance, Scent of Attraction. It takes place between Shawn and Graham in Shawn's tiny kitchen.

Shawn straightened and turned. Graham was leaning against the opposite counter, less than an arm's length away. Shawn's foot tangled in Graham's, and he let out a surprised yelp, struggling not to fall. Graham moved quickly, grabbing him by the upper arms, keeping him upright.

They were even closer now; Graham's hands hot through the sleeves of his t-shirt. He looked up, meeting Shawn's eyes and gave his arms a squeeze, wetting his lip with his tongue. "Sorry. I didn't mean to trip you."

"It's okay. It's a small kitchen," Shawn said breathlessly. He was totally focused on those lips.

Graham tilted his chin, offering, and Shawn leaned in and touched his lips to Graham's. He felt soft, warm lips moving over his own, the friction of stubble against his cheek, and then Graham was opening his mouth—inviting him in. Shawn accepted eagerly. They kissed, hot and wet and messy. Graham pushed against him, making breathy sounds, then pulled away for air before diving back, taking his turn to explore Shawn's mouth.

Dog Days of Summer

In a previous post I talked about the short story I wrote for the M/M Romance Group over at Goodreads. It's part of their Hot Summer Days Anthology.

Now, thanks to the generous help of one of the group's members, Dog Days of Summer is available as a download at ARe.

The story is still free and is available in a variety of formats. So head on over and grab yourself a little piece of Summer.

Silver Flash and an Announcement

It's Wednesday and that means it time for the Silver Flashers, but first I have an announcement. I have a Halloween story coming out. I'm so excited!

Right Street, Wrong House will be released October 29th. It's with Silver Publishing and once again, Reese has done a wonderful job with the cover art. I can't post it yet as it's not official, but I've seen the cover and it's creepy and sexy. :) I'll post an excerpt once the cover's finalized. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

This week it was my turn to give the prompt(s). I suggested three:

"I can't believe I didn't know that about you."
 "Anyone ever tell you you're a Grade A _____?"
and
"What the hell do you think you're doing?"

When I went to write my flash none of them worked for me. Luckily our fearless leader, Ryssa Edwards had provided an alternative prompt:

He/she was so tired he/she could have . . .

I went with that prompt and a summer theme. I'm even including a pretty picture for your viewing pleasure.

Sketching Dane

Copyright © 2011

Dane shifted, trying to get more comfortable. Going to the beach had sounded like a good idea when his buddies had suggested it, but he was bored and restless and his ass was numb. He lay down on his back, but the sun shone in his eyes.

Dane sat up again and scanned the lake, looking for his friends. There they were; on the wooden raft fixed about sixty feet offshore. They were roughhousing, trying to push each other into the water. It reminded him of the sea lions at the pier in San Francisco.

It made him uneasy. As a kid he’d been short and slight and his older brothers had dunked him a few too many times in the public swimming pool. He’d grown up and at six foot five he was tall enough to easily wade out to the dock, but he wasn’t a strong swimmer. Horsing around near water still made him nervous.

Dane waded into the lake to cool off. As long as he could stand up he was okay.

He slogged back through the sand and flopped onto his towel to dry in the sun. His sketchpad and a magazine lay beside him, but Dane didn’t feel like reading or drawing.

He rolled onto his stomach and used his arms as a pillow for his head. He’d been up far too early for his liking. He was so tired he could have easily fallen asleep on the way here—if someone hadn’t poked him every time he nodded off.

Dane closed his eyes. The sun felt warm on his back, soaking into his bones. The summer sounds of kids squealing and teenagers laughing seemed to fade away.

****

Dane closed his mouth with a snap. He rubbed his face on his arm. The skin felt warm and slightly greasy from sunscreen, but there was no drool, thank God.

“Don’t move!”

Dane turned his head and pushed up onto his elbows. “What?”

“I’m drawing you. Don’t move.”

“Oh.” Still half asleep, Dane lay back down and rested his head on his arms again. He rolled his head to the side, watching.

A few feet away a man sat cross-legged on a towel. He was bent over a sketchpad. His dark hair was wet and long bangs fell forward, hiding part of his face. Dane squinted at him.

“Shouldn’t you ask someone’s permission before you sketch them?”

“Yeah, but you were sleeping.”

Dane’s lips twitched.

The other man raised his head and grinned. He had brown eyes and was deeply tanned. Dane thought he was a little younger than him, and a whole lot better looking.

He shifted, conscious of his tall, lanky body and the freckles across his shoulders.

The good-looking man had gone back to sketching.

“Do you always sketch strange men while they’re sleeping?”

The man raised his head, looking amused. “You’re my first.”

Dane didn’t know what to say. He stayed silent, listening to the scratching sound of the pencil as it moved on the paper.

The man spoke without looking up. “What’s your name?”

“Dane.”

“I’m Theo.”

Dane examined him. There were other beaches closer to town. This beach was more difficult to get to and mostly used by locals and the nearby campground.

“Are you visiting here?”

Theo looked up. “My folks own the campground. They bought it last year. I’m helping them for the summer.”

Dane watched him as Theo’s gaze shifted from his face to his back, finishing somewhere in the vicinity of his ass. He fought the urge to squirm. Theo’s gaze was a physical thing, caressing his body and setting off sparks of sensation in his belly and groin.

“Why are you drawing me?”

Theo’s eyes moved back to his face. “I get to look at you as much as I want and you won’t complain.” He looked serious. “You’re not complaining are you?”

Dane hesitated then shook his head.

Theo’s body seemed to relax. He glanced at his watch. “Damn. I need to get going.”

“Do you have to? You haven’t finished.” Dane surprised himself by asking. He wasn’t normally attracted to cocky types, but Theo was different—more direct and self-confident than cocky.

“I’ve got to get back and anyway, your friends are coming back so you won’t be alone for long.”

Dane glanced over his shoulder. Two of his friends were swimming back to the beach. The level of disappointment he felt at seeing them approach was surprising.

Theo closed the sketchpad. He got to his feet and bent to pick up his towel. His movements showed off a two-inch strip of startlingly white skin just above the waistband of his loose-fitting swim trunks. Dane’s eyes lingered on twin dimples and the rounded mounds of a perfect ass.

Theo crouched beside Dane and placed the sketchpad and pencil on Dane’s towel. “Here.”

“I can’t take your stuff.”

“It’s not mine.”

“What?” Dane glanced to his other side. Only his magazine was there.

“Why would you do that?”

Theo bit his lip. The confident attitude was gone. “It seemed like a good idea at the time.” He reached out and touched Dane’s arm as he reached for the pad. “Don’t look until I’m gone. Please?”

Dane hesitated. Up close Theo was even more attractive with long black lashes and soft-looking lips. “Okay.”

Theo smiled. “Thanks, Dane.” He stood and slung his towel around his neck. “Bye. Maybe I’ll see you again.”

Dane watched him walk up the beach. He picked up a bike from the grass beside the road and cycled away without looking back.

“Who’s that?’ Mike rummaged around in the cooler.

“His parents bought the campground.”

Matt stood beside him dripping water. “Yeah? I heard the new owners had a son. Supposed to be in law school somewhere. Hey, pass me a beer, Mike.”

Dane didn’t get a chance to see the sketch until a few hours later when he was back home. He stared at the page, confused. There was no sketch, just a series of elaborate doodles.

He flipped the page over. Theo had left a note.

I can’t actually draw. If you’re not mad call me. If you’re mad, call me anyway?
Theo

His phone number was printed below.

Dane was still laughing as he reached for the phone.

The end.

Special Guest - Author Sharita Lira

Please welcome my special guest and friend, Sharita Lira.

What Would You Say if your Favorite Celeb Was Gay?

Greetings fans!

I’d like to thank Pender for having me on today. First, let me take you back in time…

2009

American Idol stage. Singer Adam Lambert is a favorite on the show. He knocks the judges dead on some performances on others, not so much. He is the favorite until…

Pictures surface of him kissing another man. They story breaks, people are talking and then Adam gets asked the question: The pictures, are they real, are you GAYYYYY??????
Adam doesn’t deny it and says he’s always been open about his sexuality.

This is before the big vote and then when the final tally is done… He’s the runner up.

Hmmm…

I wonder was America not ready for an openly gay superstar! So typical of this culture right? We couldn’t accept him as the winner because he had talent, instead, he lost to someone who looked straight, I suppose. No one had photos of winner, Kris Allen kissing anyone so…

Okay. Let me confess and say, I didn’t really start following Lambert until after he came in second and released his album. Seemingly, much of America did as well and Adam had become a superstar despite his AI loss.

Okay back to the present.

So, what if you favorite celeb came out? Can you accept him or her as an openly gay entertainer?

In some cases, the US has. Ellen Degeneres has her own talk show. Rosie O’Donnell had her own and is still somewhat lauded by the mainstream. Melissa Etheridge, KD Lang, both accepted into mainstream music but do you see a pattern? All lesbians.

Let me preface this by saying I have nothing against lesbians or the celebrities I mentioned. The GLBT community as a whole is still not given the proper respect but, why is it easier for America to accept a gay woman as a celeb than a gay man?

WTF? I’m sorry, just another problem I have with the media in this country and the powers that be that have discriminated against gay men.

We do have a few besides Adam that have broke through…

Anderson Cooper is a journalist on CNN. For a long time, he didn’t discuss his sexuality. Of course, Don Lemon recently came out, another CNN reporter. Lance Bass, former member of N'Sync and Neil Patrick Harris, of course Doogie Howser and now a star on TV.

And without more pictures, George Michael, Sir Elton John, and recently outed, Ricky Martin.

So there are examples but why is it so much harder for the mainstream to accept a gay man as a celeb? Will we continue to show bias against gay male stars just because we may not agree with their orientation?

In my opinion, I think that’s silly. Can’t people here grow up and begin to accept people for what they have inside? The talent to act, sing, dance, write, whatever without worrying who they sleep with?

This country has a long way to go. The attitudes need to change.

I’ll leave you with a personal example:

My grandma was and is a big fan of Rock Hudson.

When Rock died of AIDS in 1985, more information began to come out about his sexuality. Grandma, being the big fan she was, just couldn’t accept that her favorite star might have been a gay man. Now, my grandmother is very religious so her reasons are more staunch then some but still there’s no excuse why we should hold anyone’s orientation as a strike against them.

If he or she is gay, so what. It is their lives. Why not accept them for who they are?

Thanks to Pender for inviting me to her blog today. For a little Promo, here is my latest novella, Binding Justice in the Bound for Romance anthology

Blurb - Binding Justice, the only gay fiction romance story in the anthology, is a tale of an older man seeking assistance after losing his wife to cancer. Throughout his life, he has had the desire to be with another man but due to his strict upbringing as well as his time in the armed forces, Sire Jacobs has suppressed those feelings. At the insistence of his gay friend Gabe, he decides to attend a party to find someone of whom he can bring this side out. Enter in Jarvis Densley, a twenty three year old gay male, shunned by his parents and looking for someone to mentor and love him.

Apparently, both have similar interests but will Sire's darker desire be what keeps them apart?

Excerpt PG

Sire felt like an old man amongst so many young people. It had been years since he’d been in a place like this.
I’m only here in support of Gabriel.
He reminded himself of that several times. Sire was pretty sure no one coming through that door would catch his eye. By the looks of things he was spot on since the clientele looked to be exactly what he wasn’t looking for.
Did he even know what kind of man he wanted? A young, strong, and pretty one. Not a drag queen or flamer.
It amazed him he was going over this in his mind as he downed the last of his scotch while still taking in the sights. He never thought he’d get the chance to experience another man.
Still gazing, he noticed Gabe pulling someone’s hand through a crowd. When Sire locked eyes with Gabe, his friend nodded with a smile as the young man with him was turned to the right. After a couple of seconds, Sire got a glimpse of the guy. He was dressed in leather, looking very appealing even from a distance.
Whoa
Sire sat up on his stool, angling his neck trying to get a good look as the twosome threaded through small throngs of people. Before he knew it, Gabe made his way over with a tall, lanky, gentleman with burgundy hair, brown eyes, chiseled features, and a wry smile. He looked a lot like one of the men on the flyer Gabe had earlier; almost the same outfit, his makeup perfect.
His look was just what Sire wanted.
Gabe grinned, “Sire, this is Jarvis Densley. I been talking with him a few minutes about his choice of clothing. He looks a lot like you asked about, right?”
Sire drew up his lips, stroking his beard.
Jarvis Densley, ugly name for a beautiful man.

Bio: The Triad, otherwise known as the characters in the head of Sharita Lira are three separate muses that are the driving force behind her small amount of success. Misses Lira sees her own life as one that is very ordinary, so instead of presenting herself out to the world, she created three personalities that continue to haunt her all hours of the night to get several WIP’s done at the speed of light, and push her to the brink of sheer exhaustion, but she loves it and that’s the reason she hasn’t told them to get the hell out her head.

Silver Flash Fiction

Hi everyone. It's been a busy couple of weeks for me but I was able to participate in the Silver Flash Fiction this week.

This week's choice of prompt was:

"You know what they say, the best way to a man's heart is through his stomach."
 or
"I know I've said it before, but this really is your last chance."

I decided to use the second prompt and to bring back my university students, Tyler and Jordan from my previous free read, No More Lies. If you haven’t read that one, you may want to read it first. Click here.

I couldn’t think of a title so I’m simply calling this Chemistry. If anyone has a better idea, please let me know.

Chemistry

"I know I've said it before, but this really is your last chance to pull your grade up."

“Yes sir.” Tyler swallowed.

“Your lab work and assignments raised your overall mark, but you need to do extremely well on your final. In fact, it’s still possible that you may not pass this course.”

“I’ll try my best sir.”

His chemistry professor gave him a sharp look. “You must do better than try, young man.”

“Yes sir.”

Chemistry was his worst subject but it was a prerequisite for Rehab Medicine. He’d come into the class knowing he’d have problems and when he’d failed his mid-term—spectacularly failed—it confirmed everything he’d been afraid of.

He was going to fail first year chemistry and have to retake it over the summer. That would mean he wouldn’t be able to work as much. With less money he couldn’t afford to go to school next year. He tried to stay calm.

The professor’s stern expression softened. “You should have come to me sooner—before midterms—but it’s not too late. If you focus, study these supplementary handouts, there’s no reason you won’t do well, Tyler.”

“Thank you sir.” He turned and left the office before he lost control.

Tyler headed back to his dorm. Even if he did pass the summer class, his chem mark would drag his GPA down. Getting into Rehab Medicine was tough, impossible without excellent marks.

Maybe he wasn’t good enough or smart enough but he didn’t want to admit defeat. He didn’t want to lower his sights and give up his dream.

Jordan was lying on Tyler’s bed, reading a sports magazine.

“Hey, did you get some help?”

Tyler sat on his bed as panic washed over him. “It’s hopeless.” He tried to breathe but the air didn’t seem to make it to his lungs.

“Tyler!” Jordan rubbed his back in broad, sweeping strokes. “Take it easy. Slow breaths, that’s it.”

His throat felt tight and his nose prickled. “I tried. I really did, but I can’t do it, Jordan.”

Jordan slung an arm around his shoulders and that helped some. He tried a smile. “Maybe I need to rethink my career.”

“No way. You can do this.”

“Yeah?” He didn’t really see how, but Jordan seemed to think he could.

“Sure. I took AP Chemistry in high school. I can quiz you, give you pep talks, motivate you.” Jordan gave him a one-armed hug. “I bet you never understood the basics. You need a solid foundation before you can absorb new concepts. You’ll pass chemistry and get into Rehab Medicine. I know it.”

He appreciated the offer of help—Jordan had no idea how much. “Thanks. You’ll be a big help, but even if I pass it might not be good enough to get in. I don’t want you to be disappointed after all your hard work if I don’t get accepted.”

“Don’t give up. Marks aren’t everything. See if you can volunteer at University Hospital’s Physio Department. Talk to some of the instructors. Find out what they look for in a candidate and show them you’re what they’re looking for.”

He was getting caught up in Jordan’s enthusiasm. “Maybe I could speak to some of the students already enrolled too.”

“Now you’re talking.” Jordan kissed him. He pulled back and gazed at Tyler’s face then kissed him again, pushing him gently down onto the bed. “We’ll do this together. I’ll help you.”

Tyler arched up. “What are you doing? I need to start studying.” Jordan was rubbing him though his jeans, exactly the way he liked. The way that got him off in a couple of heartbeats.

“This is me helping.” Jordan unzipped his jeans and tugged them, and his underwear, down his thighs. “We’ll get you nice and relaxed then have a marathon study session.”

Jordan lowered his head and Tyler cried out as he bucked up into warm, wet heat and tight suction.

Afterwards he thought maybe the sex had helped. He wasn’t as stressed and Jordan had found a website that explained the concepts in a way he could understand. They worked on it for a couple of hours and when they took a break he was feeling more hopeful than he had in weeks.

He looked over the supplemental handouts. They didn’t seem quite as alien now.

“We still need to review some basics but you’re picking it up fast.”

Tyler laughed. “I guess it’s your study method.”

“Maybe you could use an incentive.” Jordan’s eyes gleamed. “How about a reward after every study session?”

Tyler was breathless. “Like what?” Jordan was looking at him like he was the only dish at an all-you-can-eat buffet.

“I’ll blow you at the end of every session.” Jordan leaned in and stroked his thigh. “But I have to be satisfied that you’ve applied yourself. Deal?”

Tyler licked his dry lips, his heart beating fast. He had a week ‘til the exam. He could do a lot of studying in a week. “Deal.”

Jordan thought out loud. “If you get an A on your final, your overall mark will be a B.” If you pull that off we’ll do something special. We could go all the way, if you want.”

Tyler searched Jordan’s face. They hadn’t done that. Not yet.

Jordan smiled. “Since this is your reward, you can do me. Sound good?”

He nodded, speechless. He hadn’t even thought Jordan would want to bottom.

****

The Chemistry grades were posted. Tyler stood in the chem building’s hall and craned his neck, trying to see over the heads of the other students. He was nervous but he’d really studied hard and he thought the exam had gone reasonably well. He squeezed his way to the front and found his grade. He blinked and checked again, in case he’d made a mistake then pushed his way back through the group.

“Well?” Jordan leant against the opposite wall, an eyebrow raised.

“I got a B!” Tyler laughed and hugged him hard. “Thanks to you.”

“You did all the work. I just provided some motivation.” Jordan smiled a slow, sexy smile. “And a Rewards Program.”

Tyler examined his face. “Are you sure you want to? We could do it the other way ‘round.”

Jordan grinned. “I’m sure and don’t worry, we will, but I’m a man of my word.” He took Tyler’s hand and tugged him toward the exit. “Come on Tyler. You’ve got places to be and a boyfriend to do.”

The end.
